Government funding for Fullarton Hub
Irvine Bay has won Scottish Government funding for an exciting new community project in Irvine.
The regeneration company successfully won its bid for the Government’s Capital Regeneration Fund for the new community hub being developed by Fullarton Community Association.
The £1.8 million Fullarton Community Hub has already received £1.1 million of Big Lottery Funding, and Irvine Bay has pledged £650,000, to be part funded by the newly won Government award. It is to be built on the site of the existing ageing centre in Irvine. The project will include a designated youth club space, a training kitchen, community cafe, multi-purpose hall, community garden, games area, informal meeting areas and office space as well as housing a relocated doctor’s surgery and pharmacy.
Other partners include North Ayrshire Council, North Ayrshire Social Care Partnership, NHS Ayrshire and Arran and the Robertson Trust.
Patrick Wiggins, Chief Executive of Irvine Bay Regeneration Company, said: “This is a fantastic community-led project, and we hope it will probide a catalyst for a bright new future for Fullarton, an area which currently suffers above average levels of deprivation and low life expectancy rates.
“The project recognises the aspirations of local people and signifies the commitment of Irvine Bay to support communities to deliver local regeneration as part of our community legacy.”
The project will provide employment for 17 people during the construction phase and once it is fully operational, will secure employment for 7 full time equivalents plus volunteering opportunities for over 100 people.
The new facilities at the community hub will include an employability hub, a designated youth club space, a training kitchen, community cafe, multi-purpose hall, community garden, games area, informal meeting areas and office space as well as housing a relocated doctor’s surgery and pharmacy. The new hub will benefit over 3,200 residents of the Fullarton and Harbourside areas of Irvine.
