Ardrossan North Shore

This major project aims to create new commercial space at the harbour, develop new homes and extend the existing successful marina.

Highlights of the £70 million 10 year development include:

  • At least 4,000 sq m of offices, along with a restaurant and a care home
  • The creation of new public open space
  • More than 400 new homes
  • The project is expected to create the equivalent of 414 new jobs.

There are 3 main elements in the project, which includes Ardrossan Quayside, the redevelopment of the Shell refinery site and plans for the Marina.

  • Ardrossan Quayside

This project ties in with our acquisition of the 0.6 ha Ardrossan quayside site from Peel. Ardrossan Quayside is a mixed use development including offices, hotel, café and chandlery. The new facilities, completed in June 2015 will be attractive to marina users and to the hundreds of thousands of ferry users who pass through Ardrossan each year to catch the Arran ferry.

  • Former Shell refinery

The multi-million pound project is a Joint Venture between Peel and Irvine Bay to redevelop the former Shell refinery site, creating over 400 homes and commercial facilities in a mixed use development which will have a major impact on the regeneration of the town. The decontamination work on the site was awarded to ERS and is now complete. We are currently exploring interest in the site with house builders and hope to announce a contract in the future.

  • Marina extension

A first phase of development at the marina will create more than 200 new berths at the marina, with an eventual additional number of around 500.

The existing marina was developed in the late 1990s by Peel and Clyde Marina and the 250 berths operate at virtually full capacity. The marina also provides boat repairs and maintenance, sales, hoists and car parking.

Preliminary design work for the marina extension is complete. The consultants are Arch Henderson (engineering); EnviroCentre (environmental) and Drives Jonas Deloitte (town planning).

A planning application was submitted following environmental studies, traffic assessment and design of breakwater and land based facilities - all documents are available for download from this page. A public consultation event took place on 12 January 2011.

The redevelopment of Ardrossan North Shore provided opportunities for a local primary school to explore past, present and future in their area.
